If you want to get started with their awesomeness, listen to Mulche's Odyssey (last song). Their bassist is absolutely amazing, their guitarists tandem lead like Allman Brothers only better, their drummer is up there with Bill Bruford, and they have an auxiliary percussionist. I really cannot say enough good things about this band. Check it out. Other good ones if you like "Mulche's Odyssey" are "Blue Echo," the first "Divisions" and "Hurt Bird Bath."
I like my own band too, Southern Panhandle. We jam stuff out.
Phish goes without saying, although I do get bored with them sometimes.
Werd.
EDIT: By the way, if you like Adrian Belew, check out Track 19: #5. My friends were there while I was at DECA.

Phish - duh.
The Dead - I'm not familiar with alot of their repertoire, and a lot of it is hit or miss for me. |

Blues Traveler is tired, but Tad Kinchla's a great bassist.

Grateful Dead and the Allman Bros Band paved the way. A whole scene has blossomed from those humble beginnings. I'd say Umphrey's McGee and moe are sitting at the top of that scene right now.

There's a lot of music that would not be around today if it wasn't for them. ABB is obviously one of the originators and one of the best ever. All you have to do is listen to "Dreams" on "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed " on Live at Fillmore East to understand.
I've seen Gov't Mule and ABB on more than one occasion at Wanee and I have to say that Mule is freaking awesome to just be a 3-4 piece. I'm not a big Phish fan at all, but they are a legend in their own time. I don't think that I could name a favorite "jam band". There are just so many and they all have their own strengths and sounds. I like them all!! |

the dead, phish, umphreys, string cheese, the flecktones, steve kimock and all of his side bands, disco biscuits allman bros, MMW, benevento russo duo, lettuce, robert randolph, derek trucks band, and moe are some of my favorites
