Does anyone know what type of bass Paul Turner from Jamiroquai plays? From some of his videos and the sound he gets it looks like a music man or maybe a fender but i cant tell. if someone knows for sure im just curious.

He plays many basses, but lately he has been using an Alleva Coppolo... awesome bass.

He uses vintage 60-70s Fenders, a 70s stingray, an Alleva-Coppolo LG5 w/ aguilar preamp, and I'm pretty sure I've seen him with a more recent EBMM stingray. Also, with annie lenox he uses some kind of electric upright.

Makes you realise just how much of your sound comes from your fingers, doesn't it?

Yes, yes! There's so much you could do tone-wise just by the fingers and the pressure hitting or plucking. --Kent

^^ +1...if you want a great example of this look up "ric fierabracci xotic bass" and watch him review the new xotic bass. in his opening playing he gets a ton of different sounds out of the bass without changing anything on the bass or amp. its all in his hands...

I didn't realise how relevant this was until I started working in a bass store. I'll hear someone auditioning a bass and think "Wow that sounds great. I wonder what it is?". Often it'll be an instrument I've auditioned myself previously and didn't really like. So I'll give it another audition and once again, I don't like it, and it doesn't sound so good as it did a second ago when the customer was playing it. Different fingers!

It works the other way too - a customer may be audition one of my beloved Stingrays and it'll sound like ass. There's something about the way I play that makes Stingrays sound, well.... perfect for me.

Kinda explain why one person can love a particular bass and another will hate it.
