I just heard about this band today, and after listening to about 3 songs, I went out and bought their greatest hits. Amazing bass player. All of them lol. But I can't help but think that all of their songs sound strangely the same. And all of them have that kind of techno, gay-only club vibe. lol. Over all I like them though. Thoughts?

Well, for the part that i've memorized at least. Ha! I'm gonna learn this song one way or another. That'll be on my next constructive criticism video set!
This is a little off topic, but its my thread so I guess I'll allow myself to continue. I still can't get that hammer-pull on californication down. I get it about 50 percent of the time, but its so hard to keep it consistent for me. What fingering do you use? I'm doing
i r i p
G|--7h9p7---
D|---------10
And when you hammer the ninth fret do you kind of snap your finger off the edge or just lift your finger off the string really quick? If I snap it off the edge then the hammer-pull part sounds perfect but I find it near impossible to hit the next note and stay in time. But if I just pull off I can hit the next note perfect but the hammer-pull sounds a little off. And half the time when i hit the 10th fret i'm not even plucking it. I just kind of hammer it on, and I know thats bad but I have a hard time actually getting my finger to pluck it. I guess I just need to practice it more, but I've played this song way more times than I should have to to get it down. Its not a hard song, I just cant get that one part right! <insert curses here>

As for the original post I can't say I have heard much in the way of "gay techno" but Jamiroquai a much funkier band than most out there. It's tasty, feel good, deep funk as far as I'm concerned. I would say his music is the opposite of the techno and house music that was around when he launched the band. Disc 2 of the High Times greatest hits with all the remixes sounds more club like for sure but Disc 1 is all about great tunes. My wife and I love the band and so does my 12 year old son. We listened to High Times all the way home yesterday. Good driving music as well. |

But yeah i'm starting to like them more and more.

My son is going to learn all about life somewhere along the way but even without my influence he knows far more than I ever did at his age. Best to be open with him and take away the mystery, whatever the subject. At this point some of the lyrics are a lost on him but we have a really good relationship so when the questions do come up he'll get a straight answer. If has more information then he can choose not to use it but if he has no information then he can't use it.
Cheers. |
