Jazz artists

Sign in to disble this ad
I've started listening to a little jazz music that's got a good bassline (Pastorius, Wooten, Clarke, Davis, Coltrane, etc.)
Does anyone have any good oldschool or new artists they think are good?
If you guys could provide me with download links, that's be great! Jazz music is so difficult to find. :s

MOD NOTE: We do not allow links to any illegal download sites here, so any links must be to legit sources, Youtube, etc.

Yes.
So you go on youtube and find videos of groups you like. You get all the names you can from the MORE INFO drop down and then you search the downloadable albums/discographies for the musicians you've already heard and enjoyed. Lather, rinse, repeat.

i would rephrase his statement to "Good" jazz music is hard to find on youtube, especially if you don't know where to start.

I suggest starting with a jazz song that you know you like on youtube, and then click on a link in that "related videos" sidebar on the right. I know that I have found out about a lot of really cool jazz artists that way.

Gotta correct my bad! William Gibson is a sci fi writer.

What I mean to say was William Parker. Bass player =)

+1 on Mingus, can't get enough of his stuff atm myself.
Also, Brad Mehldau is a fantastic contemporary artist, he does a fantastic rendition of Wonderwall and makes it his own. Better than the original IMHO.

Most youtube links aren't any more "legit" than "illegal download sites"

just sayin'

anyhow, check out Mingus for old school stuff.

Otherwise I'll second Brad Mehldau and if you enjoy his stuff you DEFINITELY need to check out The Bad Plus as well. Also, Christian Scott.
