I'm trying to expand my listening / musical horizons with some jazz fusion material.
I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to make suggestions of which bands to try, on the following:
Jazz rock fusion
Jazz blues fusion
Jazz funk fusion
Thanks

For jazz/rock fusion try Miles Davis' Live Evil or Bitches Brew.
For jazz/funk fusion try Herbie Hancock's Headhunters or Thrust. For something newer check out John Scofield's A Go Go.
For jazz/blues fusion try some of Robben Ford and Mike Stern's stuff. Stern is very jazz/rock at times as well.

The group "Sex Mob" have some pretty good "fusion" stuff too....
How about some Afro-Cuban Jazz?
Afromantra - Any, but esp. "Alignment", Buena Vista Social Club - Any, Abdullah Ibrahim - Any ( my fave is "African Magic"), would be a good start....

Have you listened to the new Elektric Band album? Good stuff on there. I've only had it for a couple days but it's great! |

| | | | Bern-
I had it in my hands yesterday & passed; in the past, I woulda bought it the day it was released. I'm pretty sure I will get around to getting it, though.
Dave B. recently turned me onto an Elektric Band thing with Mike Pope on bass; that was happenin'.
I know you're a big Anthony Jackson fan-
A friend has let me borrow Front Page(mentioned above in my post).
Imagine Steve Khan's Eyewitness Band w/ Jaco sitting in.

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to keep an eye out on audiophileimports. It looks like they're sold out right now. Does Amazon carry it? |

Living in a musical vacuum as I do, there's about 3 names in all of them that I've heard of (and prolly never knowingly listened to any of them )
I'm going to print the thread and drop down to my local library to see what I can find.
I've a 1977 vinyl copy of the British jazz / rock outfit, Ian Carr's Nucleus. That's absolutely sensational stuff IMHO. But I think I might just have a stab at jazz blues first.
Thanks again.
