JBL EON G2 vs Mackie SRM 450

I've done some research on this, and am interested in TB'ers noble feedback I'm debating between the JBL and the Mackie, to be used for mains at small gigs, and monitors at band practise. I'd be interested in feedback on either, or apple to apple comparisons.

-Obviously, the Mackie is 12" and the JBL 15"
-Same power ratings i believe
-about the same physical size and weight
-Mackie apparently has the overheating issue, although our band doesnt TRY to play very loud

does anyone know how bass guitar at low levels sounds through either??`

[ Also, as a side note, for small gigs (30 people) i'd like if we could just di my bass and leave my amp at home to save van space and 'work'. Right now we have JBL Eons -NOT the G2..so they'd become our monitors. Would this work or would the bass not sound good through the Eon?? Because if this wouldn't work i wouldn't worry as much about all the people who recomend a sub with the mackies ]

I've heard them side by side a couple of years ago (if it was the exact same Mackie model, I'm not really sure). I think the JBL:s sounded slightly meaner, but the Mackies sounded like they had a more straight frequency response. Otherwise, they were pretty similar. TBH, I couldn't hear the difference in speaker size. We tested them only with a CD or two so I don't know how the bass would sound through them. But I think you need a sub if you want to get rid of the bass amp. A sub is also good to make the kick drum more powerful.

I would let the price determine which to buy. Both are really good speakers anyway.

I went with the JBL. I think the Mackie's sound slightly better in the high-end, but that means little in a gig situation. I have a friend that does lots of solo acoustic guitar and he uses the Mackie. There I think they have the edge. The edge for me is durability. The JBLs are bullet-proof and take hot weather well. If you notice lately, GC has been blowing out the Mackies for $499 each while the JBLs are not on sale. Price-point may influence your decision. Neither are adequate for kick and bass. I use the JBL JRX 118sps. They are surprisingly good for the money.
