anybody know the deal with bass on all the Doors stuff? I know they did not have a "bass player" int he band, and guess that most of the bass was handled with organ foot pedals for live performance,,, but the studio stuff sounds like it has a bass.

I thought the guitar player did some double duty, been to long since I've thought about it. I am sure someone on the forum knows for sure

Here is a link from "recordings" from awhile back. Basically Ray played bass on some keys while live, and they had various players in studio.

The Doors?

They used session bassists in the studio but Ray Manzarek's left hand when playing live.

On their debut album there was a bass guitar( played by Larry Knechtel) on about half the songs....in each case it doubled what Ray Manzarek played on the piano bass. On the other songs just as Break On through, the End, Crystal Ship, End of the Night, Alabama Song... it was all Fender Rhodes Piano Bass only. Also, Ray never used bass pedals with the vox or Gibson organs...it was always the Fender Rhodes Piano Bass.

On the Strange Days album, it was all Doug Lubahn on bass guitar ecept for When The Music's Over....that song was all fender Rhodes piano bass only.

The rest of the albums is all bass guitar.

Supposedly, Jerry Scheff says he was invited to be a full time member of the band during the LA Woman sessions. Then Jim died.
