Anybody like Joe cocker? I think he has an incredible voice. At a show my group played at the other day the group that played after us did these amazing covers and they did With A Little Help from my friends Joe Cocker style and they did a few more numbers by him. The songs were fantastic. Who played bass for Cocker in the early days. I know CArol KAye played a bit on his first album . What tunes did she play on?

Joe's version of UnChain My Heart (late 80s/early 90s?) was pretty cool.

I dunno the bassist, sorry.

I'm a Joe Cocker fan. His 'Try with a Little Help from my Friends' remake was very cool, and only recently did I realize that Jimmy Page played the famous guitar lick.

I had the pleasure of spending a couple years playing for a guy named Phil Driscoll, who was in Joe's horn section in the early years. Phil's singing voice was very similar to Joe's, and we did a lot of Cocker material on that gig (Put the Light Out, etc.). The piano player on that gig (I believe his name was Larry Marshall.... it was a long time ago... early 80's) was a great player and actually joined Joe's band, touring with him through most of the 80's from what I understand.

There is a nice little boxed set called 'The Long Voyage Home' that has most of the Cocker material worth listening to, and GREAT liner notes.

Mark me down as a die-hard fan (I'll even forgive him that dodgy patch in the 80s!). One of the greatest rock vocalist/performers ever.

Favourite tracks? "With A little Help" will always be the killer anthem, of course, but my list would have to include:

Feelin' Alright
Cry Me A River
Delta Lady
Marjorine

Have you heard the album/seen the film of his 1970 "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" tour? Pure gold...

I don't know whether Joe Cocker had a regular bassist for any length of time, but the bass player on that album/tour was Carl Radle.

Joe Cocker rules. He really knows how to put the soul in covers. I was watching Woodstock this weekend and watching him sing "with a little help" was awesome. Don't forget his remake of The Letter. Mad Dogs and Englishmen is a must have.

Not to mention She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.

I saw an album liner that dubbed him "perhaps Britain's greatest white soul singer." That's too many qualifiers. Joe rules.

+1 to all that's been said. Treat yourself and watch Cocker's concert film Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Truly great.
