Well, the wife is happy, so you're doing a good thing. They do have some cool songs, so it won't be a total wasted evening.

I wouldn't pay that much to see a band without the singer that gave them their distinct sound.

Just go find a Chicago tribute band, pay 10 dollar cover, and almost the same experience.

We avoided Ticket Masterbator's gouging or it would have been a lot more.

Or the guitar player, Bass Player or drummer that made them a killer band in the early seventies. I loved that band, but they are a shell of their former selves. They really are a "Chicago Tribute Band".

guess this isn't the time to say i was with a friend and we were both stumbling drunk and thought we were going to see another friend play in a battle of the bands and walked into a Chicago concert by mistake (turns out there was no battle of the bands). despite not paying (i mumbled something incomprehensible to the gate guard and he waved us through) we left after the opening number thinking we'd payed too much, so i feel for you big time. this was back in the early to mid 80s if that makes a difference.

I love Chicago. I've seen them about 4-5 times, although I've never payed that much to see them. Someone had said they were a shell of their former selves and that's true. I think there's only like 4 original members left but they still sound da*n good live.

That's pretty steep. I'm thinking I paid far less than that and got to see Chicago double billed with Earth Wind and Fire a few years ago at Red Rocks, Colorado. They shared the stage for a few songs and assisted on each other's hits. It was amazing.

Enjoy the show. Making the woman happy will be worth every penny.

I saw them a year ago playing a double bill with the Doobies. At the end, both bands came out and played together as one mega-band. It was kick-ass!

I remember Chicago in the 70's clearly - one of the tightest, best sounding rock/brass bands ever. There were a number of really cool bands like Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Blood Sweat & Tears...all combined a rock band with a heavy dose of brass and sax...the sound was fantastic. I miss hearing more of that sound today...to play tight and right in that kind of setting requires top musicians.

Seeing a band that's not really any of the original or integral members is kind of wierd to me. I remember going and seeing The Diamonds with my father back when I was a senior in high school, but none of them were the original Diamonds. They were just playing under the Diamonds' name. They referred to themselves in the third person, which I thought was kind of wierd, e.g., "Silohettes was a hit song for the Diamonds in 1957."

Are there any original members left in Blood, Sweat, and Tears? That band's pretty much had about a bazillion different players throughout the years. I guess that's to be expected of bands that are more than five-piece, though.

True.

To my disappointment, they've been milking the "let's listen to schmaltzy ballads in the Jacuzzi" genre for about 30 years now.

I can't say that hasn't made them a lot of money, though. I read a news article a few years ago that referred to Jimmy Pankow's ex-wife and her multi-million-dollar Malibu home. I thought, "Hmmm, the rock trombonist's ex-wife got the mansion. I wonder if that's ever happened before, or since."
