...Except we didn't book a show tonight.
I almost feel bad about it, but not really.
About 2 weeks ago we got a call(email) for a show at a decent room. For tonight (Friday), but light on details. We emailed back saying we're interested but what are the details, we need to discuss with all the members for availability.
The got back to us and it turned out to be a half hour set/competition/popularity with a very attractive pay-to-play/sell your own tickets clause. And yes, I mean that sarcastically. All the band emphatically said 'screw that Bull****'. We don't pay to play. We don't do talent shows, and on most nights we don't play less than an hour set.
A few days later we get an email that says 'here's the lineup!' and we notice we're on it. We email back and say that we never confirmed and that we're sorry but we cannot attend. We'd be happy to play another time for an actual event.
Today I get a call from our singer, who's gotten a call from the sound man, who's wondering why we haven't loaded in (who loads in at 4-something PM anyway?). For a show that we never confirmed, didn't book, actively told them we wouldn't play.
Apparently, the 'promoter' hasn't taken our name off the bill, rearranged the line up or any of that stuff. Which is too bad because I'm out the door for a couple beers.
Of course I worry about backlash from the venue, which is a solid and large venue...but its an independent promoter, and hopefully it doesn't screw us.
Anyone else have this kind of thing happen?
