hey waddayaknow, thats me up there

yea i refretted a squire p to a 24-tone, 5-limit JI scale, with piccolo strings. it was an interesting experiment, but i haven't touched on it since i made that video. since then i've been doing JI on piano (check my sig).

but i hope to get back to JI guitar/bass. just gotta figure out a better way to fret...

This would have way more replies if more people know what it was.

I realize I could google it. But, what's just intonation? I've listened to the YouTube.com clips & the Myspace ones, I like it. But, what is it?

Is it like Well Tempered vs. Equal Tempered?

Yes. Well tempered is an attempt to mix some of the good stuff about just intonation (pleasing intervals) with the good stuff from equal tempered (transposability).

yep, well temperaments (meantone, werkmeister, kimberger) are a sort of middle ground between being in tune and being able to modulate. but the key word that should be used is 'compromise.' justly tuned music systems are not temperaments at all, because the intervals are not 'tempered,' or altered, from their natural state.

there's a lot to say about what just intonation is. the textbook definition is: a system of music where frequency relationships can be represented by simple, whole number ratios. that basically means that the peaks and valleys of pitches' wavelengths will line up at certain points.

I'm not sure but this is what I think it all is. I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.

Equal Temperament = Tuning system where notes are equally apart.
Well Temperament = Tuning system that tries to make an instrument able to play in different keys without sounding out of tune
Just Intonation = Tuning system where intonation is adjusted to simple ratios giving it the most beautiful sound. But it's not really good for playing in different keys

My teacher says all the music you hear is out of tune. Except the piece that guy made in the video.
