I've got the one my first bass came with, 2 from the school bass that I never bothered to return, 3 from Carvin that they gave me for free, 1 strap I got for my birthday 5 years ago with lightning all over it, and one DR padded leather strap (the only one that I use).
that makes 8. for one bass.

Funny thing, I have 2 of each. I like to have doubles of things for when I'm gigging. Makes it a lot easier if I pop a string in the middle of a song to just grab my backup bass thats already strapped up. |

I have one strap I use on all my basses, and one for all my guitars.

I have three crappy nylon straps. They work great for an acoustic guitar or an ABG.
I have a decent nylon strap with a sliding padded section that works great for electric guitar.
I have a 3" wide unpadded Levy's, a 2 1/2 inch wide padded Levy's, and a 2" wide padded Levy's.
I have a Comfort Strapp.
And I have a Talkbass strap. It is my favorite, followed by all the the Levy's.

It turned out great! The ends are square, but that's the only thing I'd do differently. I used one of my other straps as a reference for length. Basically laid a piece of duct tape a bit longer than that face up on a counter top, taped that down at each end with a piece of tape that the ends would fold over the original piece nicely at either end, ran another piece of duct tape sticky side down at the half way point of the original piece, did the same thing on the other side, peeled it all up, wrapped the overhanging tape around the back side, folded the ends up, added a bit more tape for reinforcement, punched a couple of holes, and Viola! |
