Just saw Nine Inch Nails & Alice in Chains...

...last night and it was an amazing gig. AiC new singer sounds just like Layne (where did they find this guy??) and NIN were incredible.

It was touching to witness two legendary bands, one ending their career (well, Trent said it was a hiatus) and the other reuniting, perform side by side at a great festival with near perfect weather.

The sound was amazing, and everyone was really good to each other. A little surprising considering how many metal/punk/hard rock acts there were. All in all a fantastic time.

I just had to share...

Yes he was, and his bass tone was perfect. Wish I knew how he gets such a sound.

Just checked, it's William DuVall:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_DuVall

Cantrell did pretty much all of the talking with the crowd between songs (not that there was a lot of that going on) whilst DuVall just sang the songs. It seemed a fitting approach, all things considered. It was mainly a greatest hits set, with songs like Man in the Box, Grind, Would?, Them Bones and of course Rooster. Not that I'm complaining about that at all, it was fantastic.

I saw them a few years ago and I had goose bumps bad. When they did Rooster, I was beyond blown away by the similarities in their voices. Just amazing.

Sounds like a perfect set to me, exactly what I'd want! I'd say Cantrell is the frontman now.

We were out back of the arena when their set started(beer), and the fist song the done was Them Bones, man I almost dcropped my drink at the screams at the start, if I hadn't known better Layne was there!

I thought it interesting that both headlining bands (Lamb of God was the third headling band, on the metal stage) finished with some of their quieter songs - AiC with Rooster and NIN with Hurt. It was all very fitting for where both bands are at in their careers though.

Yeah, he definitely seemed to be taking that role, including introducing the band.

Yeah, it's uncanny. Me and some mates agreed that if you closed your eyes you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was indeed Layne up there. It was so surreal, and Layne didn't exactly have a generic voice to start with,

Here's a vid with surprisingly good audio of NIN. Whoever filmed this must've been standing right next to me.

Saw the new AiC opening for Velvet Revolver last year. Alice in Chains put on an amazing set, VR fizzled in comparison. I will admit I am a bit biased (AiC is probably my favorite group) but everyone around me was on their feet and singing along to AiC, then everyone sat down for the VR set.

I also thought DuVall was great and don't fault AiC in the slightest for finding a singer who sounds like Layne. Layne's vocals really were a huge part of their sound signature and straying from that would probably make them sound generic.

It was a VR show I saw them at too (Scranton, PA), and I agree with everything you say. I had high hopes for VR, but AiC stole that show by far, I think. You felt the crowd energy just deflate after AiC.

It was. Kinda sad I won't be able to see them again unless they decide to tour again after this last one. A mate is seeing them 3 times this week... jealous.
