Last night I got sidetracked while doing some reading on here. Who knew that Ed King, the Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist/bassist who (co)wrote Sweet Home Alabama got his start playing for the Strawberry Alarm Clock (Incense and Peppermints)?

Hey thanks, I've been wondering who did that song "Incense and Peppermints" since I heard it on The Simpsons... sounds like a thrash metal remake cover to me!

Furthermore that he was robbed of his 1959 Les Paul at gunpoint in his own house. He came across the guitar in the "Beauty Of The Burst" book, and was able to track down the owner, and got his guitar back.

I think it's always interesting seeing guys popping up in different bands- sometimes a decade or so apart.

Donny Iris was in the band The Jaggerz (who had a hit with "The Rapper"), went on to Wild "Play That Funky Music" Cherry and then to his 'solo' stuff featuring "Ah Leah" and "Love Is Like A Rock."

Also, two guys from the turtles went on to play for Zappa.

I knew that. I used to send emails back and forth to Ed King starting in 1997 when I first discovered his AOL email address he had back then. He wrote that trademark guitar lick in Sweet Home Alabama and wrote "Strawberry Alarm Clock's" big international hit when they were based out of Burbank, Ca. Ed finally got his share of the royalities on that hit just a few years ago and I believe he bought a couple of '50's vintage gold top Les Pauls with the proceeds. He also had a 1959 Les Paul stolen once.. and believe it or not, he spoted it about 10 years later in a guitar collector's catalog.. he got in touch with the current owner and eventually got it back safe 'n sound!!! Ed now lives in Nashville, Tenn enjoying that area very much he told me.

Didn't know this; I saw Wild Cherry in '76(WC's front man, Bob Parrissi resembles Iris, IIRC)...so I hadda check.
According to AMG, Iris isn't listed as a "member" of Wild Cherry...in Iris' bio, AMG mentions that Iris "toured" with Wild Cherry: after WC disbanded, Iris & WC's ex-keyboardist started a new group.
Close enough for jazz!

That is weird about Strawberry Alarm Clock & Skynyrd...SAC, to me, sounds very British Invasion-y.

Survivor's Jim Peterik ("Eye Of The Tiger") was a major member of The Ides Of March ("Vehicle"...the BS&T 'rip-off').
