JVC Newport Jazz Festival Lineup Just Announced 5/09

Here's my once a year public service announcement.

The JVC Newport Festival lineup was announced this morning.

Headliners include George Benson, Al Jarreau, Angelique Kidjo,
Chris Botti and Savion Glover at Fort Adams State Park in
Newport RI. Open field seating, 2 stages.

The Friday night lineup is reserved seating only at the
Newport 'Casino', the tennis venue where the Tennis Hall of
Fame is. This is a very elegant affair. This event usually sells
out very quickly, so step up if you want to go, tickets go on
sale May 10th at 10:00 AM.

The Friday show is opening with Jane Monheit and the headliner
is John Pizzarelli and his 16 piece big band. I believe they feature
Sinatra's stuff.

More details are available here.

If you have questions about which accomodations are decent,
and which motel is across from the sewage plant and is to be
avoided because of prevailing summer wind directions, feel
free to PM. Or for any other general Newport RI area info.

The links on the Newport page don't work. Can't see the schedules.
And Jeez, the "Dunkin' Donuts Newport Jazz Festival" cannot we get away from the donut people?

Oh yeah, can I get a room with a view of the sewage plant (preferably one where the windows can open)?

Man, we are talking Rhode Island here. HERESY!

Yes you can. Connell Highway, right next to the Walmart.
The summer winds prevail from the Southwest, so you will
get a nice cool breeze off of Narragansett Bay, right over the
sewage treatment plant and right to your window. Cheapest
rooms in town.
