Hi guys, I'm looking into playing a little key bass occasionally, what do you guys suggest? I was fiddling on getting a moog, but the sounds wernt quite as modern as I would have liked them to.......I'm looking for something along the lines of R&B'ish, thank you in advance for your help.

Any analog-ish synth can do this pretty good, you don't need to pay for a minimoog to get a good synth bass. You just need to learn some sound tweaking. Keyboard presets are rarely useful for anything.
What's your budget, and do you have any sound examples?

Get a Novation Bass Station. You can either get standalone hardware, OR, as I've done, they have an emulator you can run on a laptop with a Midi keyboard controller (I use an Axiom 25 for just this, and pop samples with the drum pads).

they also have them for Moog, and they all sounds really good.

run Ableton Live or Propellerhead Reason in the background, and you have a one man band (I like Ableton)...and you can record your performances.

I use the microKorg - it has some really nifty sounds, although more house/trance oriented. However, for the price, I think it's a great buy with some great sounds. There's a few problem with it, though. The keys are physically smaller then normal (but they feel ok to me). The keys aren't velocity sensitive (playing loud or soft doesn't matter, the same exact notes will be produced - only fiddling with the volume knob produces different volumes). Also, I think that there's only a 4-note polyphony (you can only make up to 4 notes at the same time while playing a chord).

However, there's some good vintage sounds, lots of good drum and bass sounds, and some nice pads. I've seen pro bands with pro keyboard players use this little thing, too, and rock the hell out of it. Also, there's an arpegiator, a vocoder, and several other nifty features that you don't usually get with such a cheap keyboard.

Yeah, with Korg, between that keyboard, and their electribe & Kaoss stuff, can't be beat for the price.

My friend Tim and his brother had a 2 man band that used all that stuff. Indestructible. Well except for that little vocoder type mic.

Actually, it's decently made, but useless outside of the studio. The vocoder is worthless live or in rehearsal. It won't stay in place, and picks up all the ambient noise. I've used it on a few recordings, but nowhere else.

money isn't really an object. I would like to have something with a sampling input tho, just because my amp head is a single channel, and I could run my bass thru it. I think I'm leaning twoards the korg karma tho...
