Keyboards. Roland D-50?

We're looking for a keyboard to add some strings/etc to fill out our sound. I found a couple used D-50's for $250 each. Anyone know if these are good keyboards? Decent price? Looking for a decent synth sound, some piano, strings etc. It's not going to be a lead instrument in our band.

D-50 for $250 is a great price.

It's a classic late-'80s synth. A lot of the sounds on it are more or less instantly recognizable from music and commercials from that time. (The "DigitalNativeDance" patch in particular.) Read a little about it here: http://www.vintagesynth.com/roland/d50.shtml And lots of sound samples here: http://www.synthmania.com/d-50.htm

I have GAS for one actually!

I bought one back in '87 and still use it. It's a great keyboard and anything under $400 would be a good price. Lots of sounds that are usable... but if the main job of this keyboard in your band would be for strings, you might look at something else. If you can find a Korg M1, that might be better. Roland XP and XV synths might be something to check out.
