Kick Drum EQ; How would you prefer it?

I'm a drummer longer than a bassist.

I love a kick drum to have a good attack, and also be thunderous.

Something like this (Gadd's solo at 2:45):

How do you, who are more experienced as bassists and musicians than me, like a kick drum to be EQ'ed? Not so overwhelming?

Just thought I'd get input from other musicians before I go making earthquakes with my sound.

Thanks!

I like it to have some boom, but it has to have a clear punch. I think you'll be fine as long as the speakers don't blow!

I like my whole set to be really bassy. I like a really thin set just like Dave Turncrantz from Russian Circles. Something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2-hJtJrXxc

The kick drum and the bass guitar must work together sonically. In way too many bands the kick drum is EQ'd and processed to death, leaving no room for the bass guitar to come through. I like a nice bit of "whoof" out of the kick drum, and enough attack to give the band a nice tight sound... but usually wind up getting on my band to pull back the "boom" on the kick so as to leave room for the fundamental bass note. To me the role of the kick drum is to give the "chest thump" and "click" (but not crazy click a la Metallica), while the bass guitar provides tonality to the low end. At the point the low end of the FOH mix is just roaring thunder with no clearly defined bass notes, there's too much sonic space being given to the kick drum, and/or the kick is too loud relative to the other pieces in the band.
