Kick yourself in the butt club?

Does this Forum have a kick yourself in the rear club?

In 1975 I traded my 1958 red/white P Bass for a used Ampeg stack.

In 2006 I sold my 1979 US J Bass w/ original case for $500.

I've done heaps of stupid stuff, but that move with the P bass tops anything I can think of at the moment (if we are sticking to instrument related). I think this club should allow mutual ass kicking in situations like that.

Yeah that's pretty bad, and I can't top that but here are two things I need kicked in the ass for:

1) Sold my Steinberger L2 for $800 about 10 years ago. Now I see beat up L2's going for over $2000.

2) Traded my Zon Sonus 5 string for a Lakland USA 4 string that was just a turd.

Back in 1985 I had a 1978 Jazz bass with a gray sunburst finish, refinished oly white. The person who did it for me didn't do the greatest job ether when all was said and done. I was going for the Oly and Tort look.

At least I still own the bass but any kind of collector value was destroyed with the refinish job. I really wish I would have left that bass 100% origional because nowadays it would have brought in pretty good coin if I sold it. But back then who would have known a $500 bass would triple or even quadurple in price possibly. Back then it was just another bass just like many of the production basses made today.

Due to a divorce in 1990 I lost to a pawnshop;
1976 Fender Jazz natural finish, maple neck, blocks
1977 Rickenbacker 4001 burgundyglo
1979 USA BC Rich Mockingbird natural finish
I think I got about $450.00 for ALL 3 of them...
If I ever see that b*tch again....

i moved this to misc because i think this applies to more gear than just basses.

on that note, i had an acoustic 370 when i was in college that i got in '86 for about 150 bucks.

was a good amp, although it didn't completely work correctly, but it was certainly fixable (a few of the sliders were unresponsive).

i was practicing with a drummer friend i knew back then and i accidentally destroyed a neon sign he had in the practice room - hit it with the headstock. i gave him the amp in compensation - should have just bought him a new sign. i really wish i still had that head.

and that's why i don't unload -anything- bass related that i get. in the 24 years that i've played, i've only sold 1 bass (an abg 5 string ovation) and a peavey 1x15 + tweet cab i owned for about 6 months in the late 80's, along with giving away that one amp. have all the other gear i've ever owned.

i really wish i had that acoustic amp.

I bought a Gibson EB 2 in 1974 for $150 and sold it about 6 mo later. I bought a Fender Musicmaster in 1979 and sold that a few months later.

Do I qualify??

I still have the Peavey Grind I bought in Nov. '07 and even learned to play stuff on it, so I hope I learned my lesson about sellin' stuff.

Somehere around 1982 had a purchased a white Gibson Thunderbird from a music strore in Biloxi , MS while I was on the road. I later traded it in on a crappy 70's EB3 because I had just always wanted an EB3 (big Jack Bruce/Cream fan) Yea, that was not a real smart move. The guy at music store where i traded it in wanted to know why I was doing it, I think he thought i the T-bird may have been hot.

Not! I sold that along with the '79 J Bass to pay the rent. Social Security forgot to send me my retirement check for 2 freakin' months.

As long as the Moderator has moved this thread to include all gear; in 1965 I traded in my Ampeg B-12 flip top for a used Fender Bassman (plus paying some cash). This was at the old GC in West Hempstead, Long Island, NY. The B-12 just didn't have enough punch for rock at the size clubs we were playing. The ass kicker is that I had enough cash to buy the Bassman and I could have kept the B-12.

One last one: when I began playing semi-pro in 1964, I was playing rhythm guitar. I had just bought a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Jr. Special (2 pups and not the less expensive TV model) for $150. A year later, in conjunction with starting my own band, I sold the Les Paul for $300 to raise cash to buy a PA system. Those Jr. Specials are now selling for over $10,000!

A. I'm 16, and I have a choice between a black-faced Twin Reverb with JBL's in it or a Gibson Medalist (65 W solid state, 4 10" speakers, and NO TONE AT ALL). The Gibson was $100 less so even though the store would have floated me the $100 for a month, I opted for the Gibson...

B. Sold my 1978-ish StingRay to Dan Lakin to buy a Guild Pilot Pro and a Hartke 3500 head.

C. Due to divorce and moving from a real house to a 2-bedroom apartment on the second floor, I sold- Eden WT-400, WT-600, D-410XLT, D-212XLT, a Fender Bassman 10, original Guild/Hartke 410, Hamer Cruise Bass w/Gotoh bridge, and a bunch of other small things I'd accumulated over 30 years of gigging.

D. Sold a very late '60s Epiphone Casino with the long nec set (made in Kalamazoo on the Gibson assembly line) to buy snow tires. I shoulda sold the Les Paul instead.

E. Tried to make a living managing a retail music store for 11 years.

John

dude....... thats awful. Not just the fact of losing the gear but also the fact of having someone do it. Like it would be different if it were stolen.
