Kilogiggers - Who's done 1000 or more gigs?

Sign in to disble this ad
I did some calculations, and figured that I've done somewhere around 1000 gigs in my lifetime. I'm pretty positive that I'll hit that milestone by the end of the year, if I haven't already.
I'm sure it's a drop in the bucket compared to others on TB.

Any other KiloGiggers?

Gigs include club dates, festivals, charity events, church, parties, etc. Basically, any public performance. Sorry, playing for your girlfriend/wife/kids don't count. Neither do recording sessions, rehearsals, impromptu jams with friends, or singing at the campfire.

If you played once a week, it would take 20 years to hit this milestone.
So, If you've hit or surpassed this milestone, give a shout. You've earned it!

Yeah, I'm there....the last 4 years I've been in multiple gigging bands, and taking calls to fill-in for sick players in other bands as well....been gigging since I was 14 years old (I'm 50 now) but these last 4 years I've been averaging about 150 gigs a year...starting to slack off a little now, only in two bands, not saying yes to every call....starting to feel a little worn out.

Jeeez, I never really thought about it but I guess I'm there too! Started gigging when I was 16, now 57 years old. My last band lasted for 9 years, most of those years played every Fri/Sat except Thanksgiving & Christmas weekends. Man, I suddenly feel so old......

Hmmm...interesting thread. I never really thought about it before.

I've been playing for over 25 years. The first ten were spent playing full time. I think I hit that mark way back in the stone age, when I played full time and regularly played 4-5 nights a week, every week for years on end.

That could explain why I got a bit burnt out on it and now only play part time.

Where's the "smily" for patting myself on the back?

Thanks for reminding me how old I am, Jive.

Yup, I'm a KiloGigger!
Haven't counted them, and there were a number of years I didn't keep any records, so...
Well over 2000, for sure...

(where's the geezer smiley?)

Probably 1500-2000. Started playing bass at 24, now 58. Would've been more, but I took about ten years off to pursue "legitimate" careers in publishing (ha!).

Anyway, I'm probably unique in that--aside from 200-300 gigs that were exclusively UB--I've played almost every gig with the same Precision I bought when I started playing in early 1973. It's looking well-worn these days.

That being said, some money fell on me a couple weeks ago and I decided to treat myself to a second EB and picked up a Geddy Lee. Very nice, quite shiny, and not nearly as sticky feeling as the Precision.

Yo. And still going at 38. Its like an addiction, unfortunately. It takes time away from family, distracts attention from work, and the G.A.S., oh my what that can do to a wallet . . .

Yea.... count me in. And many more to go. I couldn't live without it. Been giging steadily since 1973 on Bass, trumpet french horn, everything from country bands to large orchestra. A bad gig is still better than anything I've seen on TV.

Easily in this club...like Pacman, I'm going on 3-4K by now. I did almost 10 yrs of 5 or 6-nights/week in the 80's, and have been pretty busy on a weekend/part-time basis since then.

Damn, I'm old!

Started gigging out for $$$ in 93 doing maybe 100 shows a year. 1998,1999 and 2000 averaged round 300 a year...from then till now no less than 250 a year...At least 4000? Maybe more. I'm old so I forget!

I'm at about 1,400 since 1990, God knows how many before that. I had taken about 15 years off to raise the kids.

I did no less than 4 gigs a week for around 8 years, that puts me at 1664 gigs in the 90's alone, slowed down now to take care of my kids (3,1,and a newborn). Daddy can't be gone all the time but as soon as they are a bit older, the gigs are back on!!!!
