Which band do you like better and why. I know rush is more well known but i lke king crimson better. Kc is so unique and talented. Theyve changed their sound so much but i could always tell it was kc. Ive never heard anything like them. But enough of me babbling let the discussion begin.

Rush could be considered more "pop" of the two, if that fits, but King Crimson is miles ahead in sheer musicality and creativity. My favorite King Crimson lineup was Fripp, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and Bill Bruford. I also liked the "three of a perfect pair" lineup with Trey Gunn.
I've seen both bands a bunch of times. Rush is a better show overall.

This isn't baseball, but if you're going to bass it on the variety of styles and sounds covered and lasting impact on music, KC has it.
That said, what Rush has done in trio format w/the same guys for gawdnose how many years is pretty scary. |

Rush are just a group of very talented players. Musicality is nowhere near KC.

Different styles, different mindsets. I still love John Wetton's playing more, and Bruford was in his post-yes (though several years later) prime.
More people know, and can find Rush more accessible. |

It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges though. I don't consider the bands very similar at all. And I am not a Rush hater. I'm not a particular fan of Rush, but I saw them live once and they were great...lots of fun (which I wasn't expecting), totally professional, definitely appreciative of their fans and, of course, astonishing musicianship.
Still, I much prefer listening to KC and find them more engaging and interesting.
Fripp, incidentally, is responsible for some of the greatest, most majestic guitar solos I've ever heard, and I'm not even a fan of guitar solos.

WCMF out of Rochester, NY (but I lived closer to Syracuse, Q95 didn't do it for me) played some great music: plenty of the popular rock (Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, .38 Special, Eddie Money, Journey, etc...) but oh so much Prog: Rush, King Crimson, Moodly Blues, Alan Parsons Project, ELP, Yes, etc...
Prog struck a chord with me and I was hooked - on it ALL, not just Rush or KC.
Rush is a better all out 'rock'-prog band, KC more 'true' prog, but both light me up for sure!
