Aside from his untimely demise, this part saddened me:

"After some jamming and loose rehearsals it was decided that Pete would team up with us," Dave Davies wrote in his memoir, Kink. "We drew lots to see who would play bass guitar and Pete lost."

But R.I.P., Pete...

Mods, this should have been in 'Bassists' rather than "miscellaneous." Pete's passing deserves wider notice.

Listen to their early live recordings. Pete was a great part of the Kinks' tone. R.I.P.
