KISS - Black Diamond

I know that not very many people like KISS, but I truly believe that KISS and AC/DC are two of the best of the best examples of making an art of making simple music that is good.

This is the song that got me hooked on KISS, and for that matter, music in general and is definitely my favorite song of all time, by any band. Just for the pure epicness. In my opinion, for all the harsh criticism KISS gets, this should be listed among the best rock songs of all time and is definitely proof that the have the ability to write a truly amazing rock song.

Phenominal riff by Gene Simmons, good lyrics by Paul, and a great solo by Ace.

Just thought I'd share this.

Enjoy.

Nothing wrong with Kiss. I'm not a huge fan these days but when I was a kid back when Alive first came out I idolized them. I still think their first few/several albums are really good and, at least on those old albums, Gene played some tasty bass lines.

In fact I was just listening to Dressed to Kill tonight and before playing along with Rock and Roll All Night I started messing around with Love Her All I Can. It's certainly not a technical challenge (not if *I* can learn it that fast! ) but it's kind of fun to play.

If you accept the fact that they're entertainers first and musicians second then they can be fun to listen to.

Thanks for sharing, Nos!

I got my first KISS album in '77 and considered myself a huge fan for decades, seeing them in all the ups, downs, disco days, concept albums, etc.

But I must stand up now and say, NO MORE FOR ME!

I will never understand or forgive them for the Impostor Ace + Peter thing they continue to perpetuate -- In fact, Ace in your YouTube clip is "Impostor Ace" played by Tommy Thayer and not Ace at all.

I will tell you this, you have great taste in KISS + AC/DC music, and I only hope you know the difference between what they used to be vs. now and be sure to salute them accordingly :-)

I did not mean to offend or be flaming troll, I just wanted to give you my last 2-cents, before Gene tries to take those, too.

Cheers!

BTW, I knew Tommy was in the makeup, so is Eric Singer, and while I don't QUITE agree with it, I will say that I disagree when people say they are trying to fool people. That's simply not true. They make no secrets about the fact that it's Tommy and Eric in the makeup and not Ace and Peter.
I saw the current band for the first time(my first KISS show) on July 29th in Pittsburgh and I have to tell you, makeup or not, those two guys are good musicians, especially Eric, and the band that's out there today is a great band.

They recently played a concert at the Rock Am Ring festival to 100,000 people, and aside from Paul's voice being shot, they were VERY tight and Gene played great.

You are correct on all counts, sir!

But why couldn't they give Tommy + Eric their own makeup + costumes?

They did this before with Eric Carr + Vinnie Vincent, but why not now?

This is disrespect, and I say this because Ace + Peter INDEED offended by this on every level. This makes me sad and tarnishes what otherwise would have been a band I would have taken to my grave or into my KISS Casket with 5-Stars. Now for me, not so much :-(

I agree they should've gotten their own makeup. However, Ace and Peter really have nothing to whine about because they sold the makeup to Paul and Gene, so they could've prevented this from happening. They have nothing to bitch about.

I like Ace and Peter, but they both screwed up big time. Twice. Had it all, threw away the keys to the kingdom, twice. Were both given two chances. Either fired or leaving on their own, they both sort of reaped what the sowed. Many believe(including myself) that Paul and Gene put Tommy and Eric in the makeup as a final kick in the ass for throwing away eerything they had for a 2nd time.

In some ways, I don't blame them.

A wise man once said, "Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should."

Everyone makes mistakes and not everything works out in life, but when you take away another man's identity and/or dignity in doing so then maybe it's gone a little too far. What do I know? Money changes everything.

I know a lot of old-school fans like me feel the same, but a lot more new fans have taken our places and it's to those I hope look back and well as look ahead.

Hey, this is getting too heavy now! Whataya say we crank Side-4 of Alive II and get the party started?

Cheers!

I agree with the quote you posted and it certainly applies here.

But yes, Alive II sounds good, but Alive sounds even better!!

Back in the 70's, I played bass in a band that played the entire Kiss Alive album. It was alot of fun!

I've been a KISS fan for around 30 of my 38 years and finally saw them in July. I've been watching concert footage and videos and what not for years. Eric and Tommy are better players than ACE and Peter. I know without them none of this would be but time has taken it's toll. As far as the makeup goes Tommy and Eric had to step in when Peter and Ace either didn't show up or whatever during their "reunion tours" Would have been odd to have someone else at that point. I would have liked to have seen new characters when they became full members but what do I know? They are definitely making it work.

I like that one too.

Check out the version by the Replacements, which I like in its own way.
