hey whats up all?
me and my band was wonderingabout ths pa system. we only need something that will amplify a guitar and mic for about 170-200 person wedding/graduationparty type gigs. were also on a budget.

A 100 Watt PA is OK for a small company's meeting in the conference room, but not much else.

I know how you feel though, I'm looking for a decent, affordable PA as well.

Yes, it will work. It won't get too loud before distorting and 200 people is actually a LOT of people (esp. if outside). But if $250 is absolutely all you can afford and you must buy new, there ya go.

You would be better off buying used, you could get a more powerful mixer and bigger/better speakers for similar money. Peavey stuff is plentiful and cheap. I do understand that buying used may seem like a crap shoot if you're not familiar with PA gear.
