LA vs. NYC

Sign in to disble this ad
Jeff Hamilton tells me NYCs a ****-hole and you can't get paid; Larry Goldings tells me LA destroys your soul and the studio work (with the exception of film and tv) is dried up.

I need a tie breaker: which city is worse (so I can go live in the less bad one)?

thanks,
c

I'm from Australia, but recently visited both cities.

NYC ALL THE WAY! (sorry to all you LA people, no offense)

Never been to NYC, but as a native Californian I have nothing good to say about LA and my sentiment is not unique. Basically the ones born & raised in LA like it and almost no one else does.

Well, it's true, in NYC, you don't get paid. But the vibe is awesome!

Also, in my experience here at least, you have to take those kinds of statements with a grain of salt. The business isn't what it used to be, and the older guys who have seen the better days seem to be really down on things now, but there are undoubtedly thousands of people making a living playing in either place.

It always used to be better than it is right now. That was as true 50 years ago as it will be 50 years from now.

A sad commentary on the music industry.
Hopefully not a commentary on music in the context of art
and expression.

Why would you want to do that?

My vote goes to LA. The pay sucks there, too, but the weather is great and the scene is hoppin'.
(At least it was when I was there...)

I think it's more a commentary on the tendency to romanticize the past, no matter whose past it is.

Interesting. I've always wanted to go to LA .What's so bad about it? Just curious as it's always been depicted as a must go to place.

I'm done w/ NYC - lived here most of my life. Can't do it anymore - everything is a dump! all the stores are a mess, the roads have pot holes bigger than my car, the people are so nasty they make me look nice (a real feat), the cost of living is disgusting, there are 10 billion people clammering for the same gig (that you can see), don't even get me started about the traffic (I feel like Bela Lugosi cuz I do all my traveling by night) AAHHHHHHHHHHH!!

but it's still the best city in the world!!

. . . it's the city that never sleeps - thats why it looks like shlt in the morning
