I'd say Rudy's probably has the best selection.

If you're a millionaire.

IME, all of 48th street is pretty good. Manny's usually has a few CS Fenders, a few American models, artist models that you won't find anywhere else and some other fancy goodies. Sam Ash generally has the more budget makes and models. And then there's Rudy's which has everyone's dream they can't afford.

All the stores mentioned here, Manny's, Rudy's and Sam Ash are on west 48th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, closer to 7th. They're all right down the block from Radio City Music Hall.

Guitar Center on 14th street (north side) between 5th and 6th avenues definitely has the largest collection in NYC. Pretty big new bass section and vintage bass section. And I'd say has a wide choice of options. Moreso than Manny's, Rudy's and Sam Ash. You could pend hours in there trying basses, which I've done on uite a few occasions.
