VH1 Classic is showing The Bands, The Last Waltz. I'm not a real big fan of The Band but the musical guest list is incredible: Ronnie Hawkins, Joni Mitchell, Ron Wood, Neil Young, Muddy Waters and many more. If you love music, I'd recommend watching this. Oh yea, it was directed by Martin Scorsese. |

I love the scene where they're sitting around (obviously wasted) talking about women they've met on the road. At one point, Richard Manuel (with a wicked grin on his face) says, "I'm just tryin' to break even..."
And when Robbie Robertson is talking about when they first hooked up with Ronnie Hawkins. Ronnie tells him, "Well son, you won't make much money, but you'll get more (another word for a cat) than Frank Sinatra".

for some reason, the song that jumped out at me and has stuck with me for decades now, is bobby charles, "down south in new orleans." i don't know who he is, but i dig that song. great drunken sing-a-long stuff.

Also love the way Levon sings throughout the show, esp The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.

They were together before Ronnie Hawkins, who they had in the film for a number, and whom they'd toured with quite a bit before they "discovered" Dylan ; } |

Also, the Van Morrison leg kick is priceless. |
