Late night wireless thought--is this possible?

So I was thinking about my reply to a thread in the basses section about what you'd like to see in a bass that not exactly doable. anyways, my reply was a built-in wireless that was rechargeable. anyways, so I got to thinking about it, and how doable is it?

I started thinking about my cell phone and how the battery is rechargeable via usb and it can hold at least an 7 hour charge with moderate use. I don't know the voltage of my cell phone battery compared to how much a wireless would need, but I was thinking how convenient it would be to just go home plug your bass into a usb charger and it would hold a 5-6 hour charge for the gig, and then after the gig you can go home and charge it more. Also, if you have a USB charger, you could charge it between sets. Like I said, I don't know anything about the technical specs and when it comes to bass I still have a thought that if something like that could be done, it would have been done already. But, how feasible is this? If it's not, what would one have to do to make it feasible?

i recon thats a great idea...

however problems i could see hapening... (im no rocket surgeon)

the transmiter would be built into the body? if this is the case, a section of the body would need to be routed... this means weight (or lack of) would effect both sound and playability think neck dive etc...

also, would there be an arial pointing out of the bass at some place?? this could get in the way...

good idea though... id buy one...

You could easily gut a guitarbug wireless and put it in your bass. I would rather keep removable batteries in it and be able to switch them out quickly though... I don't like built in batteries. If you need to recharge batteries during a gig, your bass will be out of service until the batteries charge.

it can be done

7/2001 issue of bass player profiles stefan lessard. he had all of his modulus basses with a built in shure wireless. i was watching the dmb dvd "on the rocks" last night. at the end, i saw the back of his bass and it had a large metal plate on the body near the neck. i assume that's where the wireless is located.

if you were having a bass custom built i see no reason why it couldn't incorporate the wireless of your choice.

theoretically, it wouldn't be that hard if there was a battery compartment that was easily accessible--there would still be a power source, as wireless transmitters would still need power, I guess my idea here is just to have the batteries be rechargeable, and build the recharging jack into the bass so that in most cases (except emergency cases where the battery is completely dead) you can just plug a power source into the bass and recharge the battery

That would be great... as long as it uses easily obtainable (and cheap) AA or 9V batteries.

Expanding on this, it would be REALLY helpful for active pickups... put some iPower 500mAh 9V's in there and put a charger jack into the bass...

yeah, I just checked my cell phone and it's only 3.7v--not enough for a wireless transmitter...maybe rig up something where you have three put together lol...or heck--maybe just a very small 2 battery charger inside the bass with a standard 9v wallwart to plug into the bass during breaks.

hmmm...here is something else--looking at the samson airline bass, it runs on a single AAA battery--thats 1.2 volts. USB generally (i might be wrong) supplies 5 volts.

there are also products out there that can charge AAA batteries via USB, and I guess what I need to find is something that takes in power, stores it in the battery, and then can also output the power as well without switching anything (just like a cell phone battery)
