Bossa Nova is a Brazilian style of music. Very unlike Mexican music.

The styles of music with the horns you're talking about is probably Norteno, Tejano, Mariachi, Cunjunto, or Cumbia. I'm no expert though.

The guy to talk to is NJL. He plays horn and bass, and that type of music is right up his alley.

horns are referred to trumpets, trombones and saxes.
You could try banda and mariachi, those are well known genres here in mexico, I don't really like them and i'm not really into that kind of music, but I hope this help you.
Just search for "mariachi vargas" or "banda el recodo".

I haven't heard straight up Mexican music with "good trumpet" parts. Trumpets play a starring role within mariachi tunes, but nothing outstanding IMO. You should check some Salsa artists if you're interested in great trumpet (and horns, in general) playing within a latin context.

Forgot a BIG example: PEREZ PRADO! He's known as the "King Of Mambo" and mambo isn't a mexican style of music, but Dámaso Pérez Prado was a cuban who lived in Mexico for a long time (and got the nationality), so I think he applies. You'll find terrific trumpet playing in his music.
