Lead guitar that makes you reconsider

Okay, so a lot of (but not all) bass players start out on guitar, and many still have their "fantasy" guitar. For me, besides the obvious Fender Strat (natch!), it would have to be the Kramer Baretta. I remember seeing Sammy Hagar playing one in bright orange, and I thought it looked so cool with just one pickup and a single volume control, and the banana-shaped headstock. If I spent more time on lead guitar, that would definitely be my axe of choice.

So, does anyone here have a lead-type guitar they still lust after (or will admit to!)?

For me, it's the original Ibanez Iceman or my gramp's old '57 Les Paul.

The Iceman just because I think it looks cool and the Les because it's to date the most comfortable and smooth guitar I've ever played.

I've got a Fender MIJ Stratocaster from the mid-80s that I really like. I'd really like to get a Telecaster style guitar though.

Years ago I bought a 'Fender electric lead guitar' from a dude.

When he said that, I actually was hoping he was talking about the old Fender Lead I or Lead II series guitars.

It only turned out to be a 1965 Jazzmaster.

It's the white guitar in this old picture...

That pic was taken in spring of 1993, out of the gear in the pic, I still have the 1959 LP Special and the Marshall cab, the 81 LP, the 65 Jazzmaster and the 1965 Esquire are long gone.

For some un-explainable reason I am gassin for a G&L ASAT Special. Played one (a Tribute) at the store where my son takes lessons .... it was stunning how good it sounded.
Must not succumb to this GAS .... it will only take away from my Bass time ....

I also have a very strong desire for an original reverse Gibson Firebird.. the color of the finish is secondary.. just playable and not stolen from someone else.

A tobacco 'burst Les Paul Standard.. does not matter if it's a reissue or not.

I started out on bass...

I've always had an affinity for the jazz boxes, Gibson ES-335's, Ibanez Joe Pass models, Gretsch etc.

And the occasional strat.

Gibson explorer has always been my favorite 'lead' guitar. The Jackson V is a close second. Then possibly an Ibanez X Series Rocket Roller II.

I like odd shaped geetars

yeah, I put some thought into this the other day.

3 pickup les paul or sg.
sustainer (fernandes/sustainiac) in the neck
pickup switch wired for bridge and middle humbucker (not sure which pickups yet)
coil taps on bridge and middle pickups.
bigsby vibrato bridge.

hmm, there may have been more but I cant recall right now.

I don't lust for guitars at all but if I had to buy one it would be a Telecaster style, most likely Mike Stern's Pacifica. This guitar rocks in all possible ways.

I agree, I wouldn't mind having a classic Fender Telecaster. I just like the style and sound of it.

I think one day I'll get Ibanez S or RG Prestige. I like Explorers' body, but Gibsons' necks aren't my cup of tea.
