Leather Faced Belt Buckle

Sign in to disble this ad
Metal belt buckle = buckle rash.

Have a Tony Lama leather faced belt buckle I got years ago as a gift.

Looking for a black or maroon leather faced belt buckle - anyone know a supplier?

Internet search was not successful. Local western shops can't find one in their catalogs and a friend tried several stores in Dallas when he was there without any luck.

Usually play wearing jeans that have a metal "fly button" so taking off the belt doesn't help.

What do you do to avoid buckle rash?

Thanks for any replies - sarcastic or otherwise

RJM

I just pull the front of my t-shirt down and tuck it under the belt.

Wear the belt with the buckle offset to one side - not centered over the zipper
I'm right-handed, so I move the buckle to the left

Simple solution. Works with almost any type of belt/buckle and still covers the metal button on my bluejeans

That's been a hard order to fill, but no longer, as Carrhart has a mechanics all leather belt.

I wish they would pick these up in the music stores as they seem to be order made for guitar and bass players.

Am I the only bass player on Earth that NEVER ever had a problem with this?

Yes : )

I've found the 'thread through' military camo belts are less 'spiky' and a flatter profile?

I've never had a problem with this, but I do shift my buckle to the left while playing - and I play with the bass more in contact with my right hip than the center of my body.

A good beer gut helps to move it outwards, clearing the "buckular" area nicely.

You can fiind 2 different belts without metal buckles in the catalog from "Duluth Trading". www.duluthtrading.com

I suppose that these are for mechanics, etc. so you don't scratch the patient.
One uses Velcro
http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/c...ture=product_3

and the other has a leather covered prong buckle.

Swinging the belt buckle to my left hip and also untucking my shirt solves the problem for me. No buckle rash at all since I started doing that.

A quick cure for this is to take a shop rag, or as an old friend used to do, your wipedown rag, and fold it so you have enough to tuck behind the buckle and wrap the buckle in the rag.

I started lacing my belt starting from the first loop from center on my right, the end comes out of the back center loop...basically puts the buckle on the tag. That way it doesn't matter where you sling your bass the buckle wont hit it.

Nope... I don't have this problem either.

Mainly cos my gut sticks out further than the belt buckle, so the bass misses it by maybe 1 1/2 inches

Exactly what I've done for the past 15 years or so. Miss the first belt loop the first time around so I have my belt buckle on my left hip just behind the pocket. This works great.

As others have said, I wear my belt buckle over my left hip. I've been doing that for 30 years - no worries.
