Leather Strap Extender?

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking to make a leather strap longer. It's a new Planet Waves strap, and it's the longest one they listed, but it's still a good 10" shorter than my old leather strap and even fully extended it puts the bass way up on my chest!

I guess the best thing to do would be to get a longer 'lower part'...the slimmer part that loops through the main part of the strap. It's just like the one on my 20 year old strap so it should be a universal thing I'd thing. Any good sources for such a thing?

No sources, but count me in on angrily griping about the sheer greediness that motivates leather strap manufacturer's to only make 54" straps except at an additional premium.

That's actually not too bad of an idea. I don't want that metal buckle anywhere near my $2500 bass though

Keep that end connected to the original strap. If it's set up the way i think it is, you may actually be able the use the buckle to hold the two together and just cut the belt itself.

Well at least I figured out the problem. I ordered this Planet Waves strap because it was one of the few that they listed that would adjust to 59". Got out the ol tape measure when I got home and the longest it can possibly get is 50". Stupid Planet Waves. Don't trust their measurements!

I went through the same thing with Get'm Get'm.

I called them up and they swore up and down the strap extended to 60" or to 70". I told them I didn't believe them and got into it with the guy about it.

Ordered it.

54" at absolute maximum extension.

Lying, stinking dirtbags!

I would say the belt idea is probably the best...

My orignal '73 P came with a strap that was far too short - think Beach Boys circa 1967 -so I tied a loop in some sash window chord, threaded it though the hole on the strap and tied it off at the length I wanted - you know where it looked cool in the mirror!! (I was 15 at the time!!). :-)
