im not a huge fan, im a "once in a while listener" if its on, i'll go with it, but there are a few songs that i have on my list that i like a lot, stairway to heaven, heartbreaker(covering this with the band now), and the immagrint song.

stairway is epic, and the other two have nice bass lines

I am a HUGE fan. Got them on my screensaver. I don't see why you have to be though.
IMO, they were almost as ground breaking as the Beatles. They have influenced many many rock bands, but that doesn't mean YOU have to like them. Nor do I think I need to impose my opinion on you.
Frankly I can't stand The Doors, U2, Jaco's good, but I don't listen to him for entertianment.
Listen to someone you like instead of trying to like people you don't.

I like them for JPJ and Bonzo.

The other two are OK. Jimmy Page was a tone master and a good arranger, as was JPJ. Pagey's technique wasn't the greatest. Robert had a good voice and his lyrics were good.

They rocked. IV = fav lp/cd

You are free to not like them. You can't, however, deny their influence. To this day, so much of what IS Rock was first done by them and is still echoed, in SO MUCH of our music. Frankly, I've heard enough Zep to last me the rest of my life, and then some...but it doesn't change the size of their accomplishments, or scope of their musical reach.

I grew up listening to them. The first time I heard them, I was hooked. I like all their bluesy stuff but my favorite album is Physical Graffiti.

never really liked them, you only heard stairway, black dog and rock n roll...started playing them, JPJ, especially love Ramble on, took a while to learn, can rock it!!! over the hills and far away, Houses of the holy...

listening... love
Misty mountain hop
Hey, Hey, (street corner girl)
Over the hills and far away
Houses of the Holy

One band I was in we did a mix of Immigrant/Rocknroll/Ocean, drummer went into the live solo and we went to the bar for shots...

I think you don't understand the big deal about them because you are not thinking in the right context. Sure, now a days no big deal. Everything they did has been done and copied to death. So, a lot of the rock you hear has some elements of Zep in it. So, even if you never listented to Zep you've probably heard something very similar in some way.

When they came out there was never really a combination of music and players like them. That's why they are considered an archtype, and why I was tortured in the 80's by so many bands trying to be Led Zep 2.........Long hair, blond singer with a high voice, banging drummer a guitar player with wicked leads, bass player holding it all together, just add water.

+1 Once heard a great statement about Page. Something to the effect that his playing suggested much more than what he actually played. How cool is that!

One of the things you have to consider is that in '68 when that first album came out, it was revolutionary. No one was doing that kind of heavy rock at the time. It just blew everyone away. After you listened to it the first time you were like "this is like nothing else I've ever heard." And each time you listened you heard something in the music that you hadn't heard before, it was genius. It never got old. It still hasn't.

Having said all that, at this point I still think JPJ is one of the brilliant foundational rock players of all time, his body of work is just masterful.

as i was growing up i never dug Zeppelin at all, i just didn't get it....they were a little before my time, now i think zeppelin is amazing, no they are not my "favorite" but they are an incredible band, one of the greatest of all time in my book, its okay not to like them, heck i like most of the bass players who get totally slammed on this forum, big deal......

Amazing, one of my top 5 favorites. They grew on me though I didn't like them at first. Listen to
Stairway to Heaven
The immigrant song
Dazed and Confused
Rock and Roll
Bring it on Home
Black Dog
Bron-yur-stomp
and
Kashmir.

You may not like these but you can't say led zeppelin sucks. I particularly don't like Jaco ( yes I just don't find the big deal) but I can't say he sucks, which he doesn't.
