Talk to a few folks who have been in the industry for a while, you can get some great personal glimpses of the man that aren't part of the published history. For example, his widow mentioned that he had a micrometer hanging out of his pocket at their ceremony, and took his tools along on the honeymoon to get some work done (that he was a work-aholic is well known, though).
It may help your research to know that Leo was his middle name, but Clarence was his first. That is why the company before G&L was CLF Enterprises, and why the current G&L serial numbers start with CLF. You can probably guess why he chose to use his middle name most of the time...
Good luck on your research on a great man.
