So I'm unsure of which drum machine I want to get. I've been playing around with a friends DR-202, it sounds great and is easy to work with. But I've been looking into the Roland mc-303, looks even more user friendly. But I've never put my hands on one. Does anyone have a clue about the nature of the MC-303? Does it allow drum pattern building and keyboard sampling like the DR-202?

The Alesis SR16 reminds me of the Boss DR-550, which I have the 550 also, had it since 1987.

Simple, yet robust, and it sounds great. |

Does anyone with circuit bending experience have a preference between the DR 202 and the SR 16? |

I won't sell mine for sentimental reasons, since I bought it around 1993 or so, but, man, I would hardly recommend one. I haven't used mine in 8 years. |

It has plenty of pre set patterns and most of the sounds are okay. However, the kick drums are not too good, but I still really like the crash cymbals and some of the snare sounds.
It takes ages to program your own patterns and ages to get it sounding not too "mechanical".....
It does n't do house music drum sounds (909 and 808) and does sound a little dated.
If you want a value for money box with 289 sounds (IIRC) then get one...other wise you are looking at some kind of sample player in hardware or software, which would ultimately sound better but perhaps offer less instant gratification. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
