Letterman, Leno, or SNL, Prince. and now YOU!

Sign in to disble this ad
This started off without Prince, but I had to add him to see where peoples musicals hearts would be at now.

If you had an offer from each to fill in and play your ax for the next year... 1: Which one would you choose? 2: Why? 3: Why not the other two? 4: Which bass(if you have more than one like (JOHN TURNER) ...would get the most action?

tough question....I think my first choice would be Letterman, no particular reason except I watch regularly ( I think Will Lee is awesome btw) as far as which bass....I'd take the Ric and the Jazz I play them both pretty much equally depending on the song

Probably SNL, just because it's the show I like the most.

I also think the SNL music is the most fun, and the players are obviously ridiculous.

I guess I'd bring the MTD with me to SNL, but I might just have to buy a Fodera for such an occasion, seeing as the current bassist uses one.

Strictly from a career perspective, I'd pick the Tonight Show first. It just looks more impressive on the resume, a brand recognition thing.

Then I'd pick the Late Show because while it's not as big a brand name as SNL, at least it's a daily gig, and Letterman's really cool. Also, working with Paul Shaeffer would look good on the resume.

Finally, I'd pick SNL because: 1) It's weekly, and 2) The comedy is so lame.

+1 on all counts, however unlikely for myself.

read music?

The one thing I have noticed is that everyone seems to have sheet music in front of them, may be a stupid observation, but it seems like no matter how good you are, you had better know how to read in order to get a gig like that. I may be mistaken

Those are most likely charts, which also require the ability to read. A lot of times the bandleader will decide last minute to play a tune, and he'll pop the chart in front of you.

Definitely Letterman. Considering all of the people Paul has worked with, I imagine it would be a gas to play with him.

i would definately play for Conan. Max is cool and Conan's band is slamming. Plus, Conan is the best of late night talk shows.

Man, yeah, the Conan gig would be interesting, but I'd love to have a go with the Letterman band too, just the killer band.

Hey, why kid ourselves, we'd all take ANY of those gigs if offered!!!

As for basses on gigs, and gigs in order of preference:

Conan: NS Design CR5M, Lakland 55-94, Roscoe Century Signature VI Fretless

Letterman: Reverend Rumblefish 5L, Roscoe Century Signature VI Fretless

Leno: Roscoe Century Signature VI Fretless, (coming soon) Roscoe Century Signature VI Fretted

SNL: Roscoe Century Signature VI Fretted, Roscoe Century Signature VI Fretless, Reverend Rumblefish 5L

Fun question.

SNL is only once a week. I'd rather play more often than that.

My first instinct said Letterman because I don't like Leno's humor. But then again, Letterman's band has to do all those lame theme songs for the skits -- I think I might go nuts with those.

So I'll choose Conan. I love his humor, and he's scheduled to take over as the host of the Tonight show in 2009. Odds are probably good that he'll be bringing his band with him. And I think I'd rather be in California than NYC as a long-term proposition.

As far as what bass I'd be using, either a vintage Fender or a Sadowsky.

Now, back to reality....

Letterman, because I prefer his show to the other too.

And I'd take my Sterling, of course!

I'd take SNL. I would NEVER want people comparing me to Will Lee.
