LETTERS TO RUIN: Live Videos! (my band)

Sign in to disble this ad
I just thought I'd post these up for the benefit of the TB community. Comments appreciated! Letters to Ruin is a blend of thrash and progressive metal, drawing plenty of influences from elsewhere as well.

The first one is for a song which we've been working on for a while and have played at multiple shows:

"Thick"

The next one is for a new song that is seeing its second debut at a live gig. It's a bit rough on the vocals, but everyone gets a chance to shine on this one:

"Make It Hurt"

On both of these, our drummer's brother started recording a few seconds after the songs had started, so don't mind the abrupt and awkward video starts. In a moment or two, you'll be following along just fine.

Both videos were taken at our Britannia Arms gig on Saturday, August 2nd. True on-the-fly videos, so the lighting is bad, but oddly enough, the sound quality is pretty good.

how do you have a "second debut"

p.s. I promise to watch these later when I'm not posting on my treo standing out in 105°F heat.

On a more serious note... it's usually high 90's in San Jose during the summer. But my family lives in Sacramento... and there, it breaks 100 frequently.

I think the first half of "thick" sounded a bit rough ("pitchy" on vocals most predominantly) and I'm not a huge fan of that style... honestly came off a little "nu-metal" to my ears (again, especially vocally), but as it progressed I liked it alright.

"make it hurt" I found much more interesting had some thrash, some prog, some metalcore (i hope you take no offense to that lol), even some David Yow-esque moments on the vocals (a plus in my book). Pretty cool stuff on that one.

So, the first one "meh"
the second "yay"

Heh... not surprised.

"Make It Hurt" is a song I'm really fond of. It's unfortunate that my other favorites weren't recorded that night... videos of the bass effect-laden songs will have to wait for another gig.

Long story, but I'm actually back as of today.

Time to take down the "hiatus" notes...

Oh yeah, and more gig videos should be coming after this weekend's upcoming gig (on the 16th)... we've got some buddies with camcorders.

It'll be my way of making up for the fact that I haven't done any really good clips of me and my gear (such as effects pedals) in action.
