Gaming Bassists, unite!
i'm sure that a good bit of you here who own Xbox 360's have experienced the RROD (red ring of death) at some point. it's an evil, evil little bug, and it's just taken my beloved launch model X360 so, i've come into a bit of a mind struggle here.
i'm an avid BFBC2 and Medal of Honor player, to the point that i've actually been having withdrawals. on top of this, Driver: San Francisco, BF3 and Gears 3 all come out pretty soon, all of which i've been direly anticipating! i also use my X360 to stream movies from my PC and watch DVDs, so with the Xbox down my entertainment is pretty much left to playing bass and network television ( i have no cable or sat.).
i'm faced with either A) replace my Xbox with a new $200 base model, or pick up a cheapy DVD player and use the money i'd spend on the Xbox on a new bass. i can't afford to do both at this point in time, unfortunately...
**on the Xbox side, i watch all my DVD movies, stream movies from my PC and game on my console. i also play regularly with friends on BF and Gears.
**on the bass side, since the Xbox broke down i've spent alot more time sitting with my bass. i've spent alot less time infront of the TV, and the 360 has a tendency to distract me from my school work during the semester.
...help me

..now, if I could only kick this Internet thing, I'd be set!

If you're entertainment is severely damaged and bass playing wont suffice download emulators and get back into the classics. I personally have on emulation all of the snes games I owned and most of the n64 games I had as well (so I don't consider it piracy, it is stuff I own in original formats). You'd be surprised at the replay values of games like zelda a link to the past and super mario 64 or donkey kong country. Besides that there are a ton of great hacks for snes games which are completely new games. My personal favorite is zelda parallel worlds. Insanely hard. zeldaparallelworlds Heres a speed run to get a feel for the whole new design of the game... Legend Of Zelda Parallel Worlds Speed Run Part 1 - YouTube
When you have enough money saved up get the xbox again. You may not even want it back. I'm so busy replaying countless classics on the limited time I have left I've seen no need to waste money on new games besides a rare occasion.

Obviously, as a gamer, I'm more than a little biases but if you have a bass and your situation doesn't immediately call for another then you're good. Fix the the xbox, save up for a bit longer and then get the second bass.

With the XBox, you are definitely wasting your time chasing a goal you could probably reach. |

Seriously though, people spend way too much money, let alone time, on games. Consoles aren't that bad: around $200 dollars, giver or take, but the cost of the controllers ($30-$50 a pop) games (often up to $60 per) and let's not even mention all the money poured into Xbox live and everything else.
I don't see how anyone can go out there and buy video games (especially when they just come out) at $50-60 constantly. Buy 10 games and you've spent at least $500+ just on the games alone. I have a feeling that a ton of these teens and young adults could be spending this amount of money, much much more wisely.
I'm not against gaming. I've owned all kinds of things from an Atari 2600 to a Wii, but I don't think anyone truly realizes the money they are wasting on these things. Parents are guilty to. I always thought to someone who buys their kid a brand new PS3 with 10 games and 4 controllers and this and that, "Hey, why don't you buy them a musical instrument?" At least you know there's a chance that it might benefit him/her.
Sorry about the rant. I actually stopped at Gamestop yesterday for a friend and looked at the prices of some of the used games.

If my bass wasn't serving me well it would have the priority. |
