Light up Cab or something...

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a sunn 2x15 cab and unfortunately one of the speakers went kaput, and as I do not have the money to replace it right now, Im going to start looking for JBL 15's. But now, I have this big gapping open hole in my cab and I thought, why not fill it with a cool light set up or something...

Let me hear some of your ideas!

OK, you asked. Ideas that follow are strictly hypothetical and not necessarily good.

You could get a a PAR64 LED can and mount it in the opening. Add a DMX controller to your rig. You would then have shockingly bright sequenced multicolor LEDs emanating from your rig.

You could get quite a bit of EL wire, an Arduino, and some relays, and rig yourself a trippy cyclic moving light thing.

You could put a massive strobe light in the opening.

Yeah, I dunno, but be sure to post pics of how it turns out. I'm all interested now...

Get a new speaker and put it in. You can damage the remaining driver by having it loaded into a cab that essentially works like an open backed cab.

I was thinking more towards a spot light or black light type thing with some Xmas lights, as it would be relatively cheap and easy, all I have to do is plug it in and cheap meaning less than $20. but I just wanted to get other ideas. The mesh speaker grill is still going to be on the cab, so you'll see the lights behind it. I'm also lighting my amp a bit. It should look cool and yes indeed, I will post pics.

If there's another cool cheap idea not pertaining to lights that will fill the hole, say it loud and proud, I'm an open minded person. LIKE A BIG TEDDY BEAR, poking out my cab, pedo-bear style!

I quite like the Pedobear idea. I'm not sure as to what sort of venue you will be playing in though...

Ah, the voice of wisdom!
All seriousness aside, BurningSkies is right. You might screw up your remaining driver. Perhaps add a baffle, splitting the can in two?

With these words of wisdom, a baffle will be put in...unless I can find a cheap 15"

Now what can I use as a baffle...

EDIT: currently there is an ad that is for speaker repairs, how perfect!
