Lighting Recommendations Needed

Need some input on lighting suggestions to see if I'm heading in the proper direction. It's music for children (ages 4 to 10) so something NOT to impact the senses greatly. Cheap is good but I don't want junk either.

From my forum searches on HC, ProSoundWeb, etc... I'm thinking 4 to 6 conventional Par cans per side w/B'tard amber gels in front directed for a wash and also at band members. Also, 1 or 2 LED lights per side for wash that I could change color occasionally with a foot controller.

To sum up I'm looking for lighting up a stage (like a stage production or play) NOT a "light show".

We have a 8 x 12 backdrop (freestanding) that we may put an I-beam truss over it and several par-38's.

Stages are usually around 20 x 15 +/-.

Feel free to suggest any color combinations, fixtures, etc..

THANKS!!!!

Been out of the business (education, instruction) for 10 years, but, back in the dark ages I pretty well stuck with primary colors. If you are selling and idea, or teaching a concept keep it simple - primary colors seem to get the job done. Where does your eye go to on that screen? The yellow bus.
