Lights for small / medium clubs

Hey all,

A thread in band managment got me thinking about purchasing lights.

A guy over there gave me a few tips but I would like to get some more input.

I'm looking for lights to handle small / medium sized clubs. Most of the bigger places we play have their own lights.

I don't need anything to crazy just something to spice up boring stages at small gigs. maybe 4 LED lights, a smoke machine, and some sort of auto control device (we have no light guy). I like the idea of no stands and just mounting the lights on a speaker, a cab, etc....

can anyone give me any input? i know NOTHING about lights and operation so please be detailed and pretend i am 12 years old.

please give me ideas for a simple set up with links and operation details.

This is what we use. Nice and bright. Can be triggered by sound. Takes about 5 minutes to set up. packs up very small.

Go for the Amercian DJ par 38 lights w/ stand and controller.
Works great.
