Moly moly, ya'll, it was like Nirvana at practice tonight. For me, anyways. Bear in mind that the room is about 20' X 20'. two electric guitars, one through a blackface Fender Deluxe, one through a Fender Princeton, mic'd harmonica, drums all acoustic, and me...with my American Jazz through a mid-70s Ampeg V4 and an 810 cab---with the volume knob at about 10:30. Oh my, oh, my, we did one tune (an original in progress) that had those notes that rang in the air, like Comfortably Numb, by Pink Floyd. I was surely anything but numb, though. The sound was just perfect in that room, everybody balanced, and the bass sounding like you always dream of it as sounding---and FEELING. Oh yes, the feeling. How can I express it?

Well, it was almost like an epiphany. There was just something tonight that hit deep in the soul. For sure, it was one of the deepest musical moments I can remember. That's a lot, considering I'm now 61 and have been playing and gigging all my life, and having other musical moments similar to that once in a blue moon. A special place along the trail, it was. That sound and chord progression, with the way the bass notes felt---mercy me.

I also give credit to the other guys. I mean, they are all top-drawer players. And I think we all were in the same mood as we played together. It was the way it should be.

I tell you, music is a powerful thing. I was reminded tonight just how powerful. How wonderful it is to walk through the inner depths of the soul like that. No show I've ever played can surpass it in depth.

Thanks for listening.
