Seems like most of the bands I've seen at local clubs really don't have much of a stage presence, which has got me wondering about other bands...let's start with ourselves. Major touring acts may be quite a bit different, for example Geddy Lee has commented in interviews how highly choreographed Rush concerts are.

Does your band spend any time on stage presence? Do you have your set list down so well that breaks between songs are exactly as long as intended? Do each of the members have a role in the performance, not to be confused with playing their respective instruments, for this discussion? Does the singer have charisma?

On the same note, have you ever seen a band that could *play* the music, but were boring as heck to see?

I'm just curious because it seems like this is the most overlooked aspect of playing out...

Thoughts?

We work on stage presence all the time and notice that many bands barely even move or speak. We never do the same set list for every show but we have a few choreographed moves in some songs, groove and dance on stage and with the audience, speak to the audience, keep the time between songs extremely brief, and most importantly, entertain the people. I put together a rock and roll revival show for this Saturday and the venue has a large computerzied projection screen system. We are going to incorporate images into part of the show.
