Oddly enough, the north-side Chicago location had more than I'd ever seen before when I went in a couple weeks ago.

Mine seem to have more basses, but a whole lot less selection in amps. String variety has always sucked.

the Columbus gc is pathetic. yeah it has basses, but right outside the room with like 20 basses, there is a good 100-200 guitars (mostly strats)

Start your day? You're in Cali, so what, it's like...7PM when you posted? If that's your "morning", I feel bad for you. You've got some serious sleep issues.

CALM DOWN.

The OP has a good point. Our GC here has gotten a smaller selection of late...

S' bout time for new '2010' models to ship to GC for the Holidays? Remember, lots of folks had an especially slim budget at year-end 2008, and some workin' folk are planning to lay down more money for gifts this year? (Some of us-still have a ridiculously small budget).

My local GC (Nashville) isn't too bad if you want to look at basses. They don't have many bass amps though. And other bass gear like pedals? Forget about it. I was buying an MXR BOD pedal and went in to ask if they had any in stock. The clerk said "We don't carry any MXR bass pedals" in the same tone she would have said "We don't carry any sacrificial puppies."

It's happening here too. They don't even have a selection of bass strings that is decent. I went in there looking for flatwounds and NONE! They had a grand total of about 5 sets of bass strings (it was the same a few weeks earlier too).

Personally, I don't see how they compete with online sales like MF, M123, etc. Maybe that is why the selection is low.

When my wife (who knows zip about basses) bought mine she went into the music store and paid $150 more than she would have on line and didn't even get the free gig bag or tools that come with it if you buy it on line.

I guess that is how they stay in business, preying on women who are just trying to surprise their husbands.

I haven't noticed. I'm not in the market for a new bass right now.

I love my local GC (Terre Haute) even though they to are low on bass gear compared to guitar equipment - staff has been very helpful and never pushy, but when asked they come through w/ flying colors

recently bought new strings, plenty of selection to choose from - had them restring it and check setup - tech was a great guy and gave it a clean bill of health

sorry to hear of all the bad experiences people have at GC, boils down to employees IMO

just an FYI .........

Guitar Center's sister companies/subsidiaries incorporate Music & Arts Center, Musician's Friend, GuitarCenter.com, LMI, Giardinelli, Musician.com, Private Reserve Guitars, Woodwind and Brasswind and Harmony Central.

I posted a similar thread a long while back.. the trend has only continued at the nashua, nh GC.

Hardly even worth popping in to see if anything interesting turned up.

I did score a couple months back when they had my strings on sale for $10. Stocked up!
