Local Middle and High School Music Programs

I will start this by saying that I am a Board member of the Kenosha Band Boosters club. We support (via donation) the local Middle and High School band programs.

I want to put it to everyone here - If you were in the middle or high school band, you have kids in the band program or whatever - Seek out your band director. Go to the school you graduated from - Ask this question - What can I do??

Why - Band programs across the country are getting hit with budget cuts and everything else cuts. Ask the band director what you can do to help....

Example - I was at an Alternative Strings concert (Electric Violins and Cello's). The band director was running around plugging and unplugging in these cables and it looked terrible. So, I jumped on MF and 4 x 1/4" - 20' cables - $15 free shipping. So, I donated them. The music director and band students could not have been more happy.

Cost to me - 1 lunch! Hey, I can skip a lunch for a kid to play electric!

I would like to challenge everyone here to do the same. Most music programs can benefit from any one of us doing things like this. Mic Clips are good to do to. They appriciate everything we can do to help!!!

my high school music program was what made me love music. Being in marching band was the best decision I made as a teenager. I made the best friends, learned a ton about music, and had a blast.

I'm sure a lot of you guys have similar experience with your high school programs. I agree we (as a musical community) can't afford to see these great programs dilapidate because of fiscal problems.

I hope to evoke some results with this. I think everyone could donate a pair of marching band sticks or 4 or 5 mic clips, guitar or bass cables, a new set of strings for the Jazz Band bass or even volunteer to grab their bass and do a set up and cleaning of it.
