Why is it, in most cases when you see an item you want, and it is local pickup only, not only on this site, but e-bay, or where ever, 9 chances of 10, the item/guy is in California. Why is it, that people in California, can't figure out how to use UPS. Are the school systems really that bad out there, as BGavin says, or what????????

You have to tie a rope to yourself, go get it, and have your friends pull you out. |

Lemme guess, you found the Schroeder cab you've always wanted, right? | Hmm...I walked into a fedex with a 60 pound 4x10 and told them I wanted to ship it. It was a relatively positivie experience, price and all.

Super heavy items don't ship well, and can easily be broken or damaged. Shipping those types of items, especially for an ebay sale, can lead to a dissatisfied buyer, an UPS damage claim, and potential negative feedback.

I can't imagine walking into some of these post offices with a monster cab or something. But, if someone was paying for the shipping I would do it, I've had alot of positive experiences with having guitars and other fragile things shipped to me.
...and it's a huge strain on the horses to lug a cab to the post office in my buggy! |

Seriously though, if someone doesn't want to ship, why cry over it? Maybe they don't want to get in their car and drive to UPS. It doesn't hurt you as much as them, since it limits their potential buyer base to 3 or 4 hour drives.
I know when I try to sell an item, I attempt to sell it locally first, because I don't want to go through the hassle of shipping. If I can sell it locally, someone can try it out first, determine if they like it, and go away with it on the spot, over a drawn out PM process.

FWIW, I've shipped a combo amp and a 2x10 cab, among other things, from CA in the last couple months. I guess I learned something at CSUSB after all.
Why is it when people have to shovel a ton of snow they start bashing people from California?

Moderator | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: West Midlands UK | | | The answer here is pretty obvious IMO - shipping's a hassle, and if you've got a big enough local market to sell the gear without shipping, that's what you do. In areas with a much smaller local market, you have no choice but to ship as you aren't likely to find a local buyer.

The California ebay market is huge and doesn't need to reach out to other parts of the country, let alone other continents.

However, if you display an interest in an item, email them and ask if they would post it, you'd be surprised how often they will agree to, in my experience anyways.
Hell thats how i got my SVT and my 810 !
