Long repair time, call or wait it out?

I took my power amp to a local shop to be repaired, the guy told me it would take a couple of weeks. It's been a bit over 3 weeks now. I know he quoted me a vague amount of time, but in my opinion there's a difference between "a couple of weeks" and the month mark which is fast approaching. Should I call and ask the status, or just wait it out?

If it were me, I'd be calling.

Plus, there's always the chance that it's done and they forgot to call, or whatever.

call, but keep it friendly, especially if he's not actually attended to it yet...

you want to keep on his good side... I know it can be frustrating, but things go much better if you keep it calm and friendly.

It all depends of the amp and the problem with it.

If it is a SS amp and the guy has the schematics or You had them, it should be ready if the parts are available. IMO a couple of weeks is quite short waiting time.

IMO just call him and be friendly like manicbassman said, there's usually an explanation.

The SWR Workingman's 10 I bought non functional, was in a shop for 2 months because "Fender couldn't supply the parts".
That was fortunate to me, the part was readily available over the counter and around 10€.

Being a gearhead I think it would be a good practice to have all available schematics of your gear, because one needs them eventually.
Internet is full of them, excluding the most current ones obviously. With the schematics in hand, the tech usually finds the possible sources for the problem without a disassembly and that saves time=money.

+easiest/quickest gets usually fixed first.

Thanks for the advice. FYI it's a Crown Micro-Tech 1200. I'll probably call tomorrow.
