hey sup

i was looking for recommendations for a long strap to purchase online, because prices in canada are just way too much. i need it to be thick, to counter thunderbird neckdive, and i wear my bass low... not quite krist novoselic low, but thats the kinda length i'm looking for.

i can't really spend too much on it but any suggestions would be cool anyway. my current strap is cheap, and i wear it as low as it'll go, which isn't even nearly enough.

I have a strap that goes to 60 inches long in my sale thread in my signature. It is not a thick strap though, just fabric... but my price is cheap.

You should try to get a measurement on how long you want the strap. Lots of companies offer extra long as an option. Moody is number one for lots of people, but Levy is another excellent, more affordable, choice.

I really like my strap from Italia straps. They have different lengths and they are nice leather. I got mine at a killer price on E-Bay but you can go direct online (They have a 30% sale going on until the end of the month).

Good luck with that!

I dont think youre going to find a stock strap thats going to be the bass at your waist. I never did. I have the Italia with the xtra long extension. Puts the bass at my gut area. A long time ago, I added a dog collar to my straps extension and put the bass where I wanted it. Kinda cheesy but it works. THat was fifteen years ago and I still use that strap if I want to go low. Not to mention, if you go this way, you can get the Italia strap which is wide and thick to hold any neck dive at bay, and you can make the strap as long as you like.

Hi.

This:

http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_bent...wl_schwarz.htm

at the longest gives this height:

http://www.partanen.net/gallery/disp...um=242&pos=330

on a 176 cm /100 kg regular bassplayer.

No slippage and with the moved strap location almost no neck dive.

Sam

I use a Comfort Strapp and it's pretty good for sticking to your shoulder. I don't know the actual length, but they do have an extra long one. I use a long and the top of the bass hangs at my belly button (rough-ish).

Dunlop Lucky 13's are low, lower than I've ever needed, Duff McKagan low in fact. I've just checked and my entire Jazz is below my waist when set to lowest possible.

The height where you play the bass isn't determined solely by the length of the strap; some of it is also determined by the topology of the bass. From pin to pin, I measured that my bass straps vary from 41" to 44" even though they all are at as close as possible to the same position. So the bass also makes a difference.

If you were a real man (which is clearly your goal with this exercise), you would just walk up to a cow and carve the size strap you need. Be sure to get a metric cow! If the cow gives you any lip, pimp slap him.

I'm trying to remember who I got my strap made from... I had it made extra long and made to "resemble" Peter Green's from the Fleetwood Mac days.

IIRC it was $35 plus shipping.

I like the feel of a bass rubbing on my nipples. Is it wrong?

I got mine customized by the guy who handmade it. See if there is anyone around you that does leatherwork and can make a strap.

Neotech Super Ax Strap (guitar version, because it's longer than the bass version). $20 at Musician's Friend, and it's really comfortable. No more scratches on my neck after shows.
