Look at my ukulele bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Haha gotcha

Seriously though, my wife keeps hounding me for a ukelele
and I know nothing much about them other than they have 4 sizes and has 4 strings.

Im looking for the "Fender MIM' range of a uke. Im not instrested in a toy one or a hand made cat gut string $5k dynamo either. Catch my drift?

What are some decent brands and were to get them. (really none locally here)

If I get her one, not only will it shut her about it but then I have leverage for a new toy as well.

Help a brotha out

I just did a Google search on the words 'ukulele forums' and hit the jackpot. You might try that.

talkukelele.com was a joke, and a good one at that. Google ukelele. That wasn't a joke.

I've been looking, and there are all sorts of little companies making ukes. There are quite a few made by a company named Kala that seem to be made well and have nice fret work. So far I like the tone of the tenor size the best. That's about as much as I can tell you, though.

I'd recommend a fluke or a flea from flea market music.

http://www.fleamarketmusic.com/store...s/prodList.asp

They may appear to be toys, with molded backs and fretboard (though you can get rosewood), but they are extremely high quality. I play a Tenor Fluke as my main uke. A few friends have fleas, they are really nice as well.

They are used by a few pro's as well. Zach Condon of Beirut as well as a few members of the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra use them. They're still pretty inexpensive too.
