Looking for a good gig bag/soft case for my Modulus

Sign in to disble this ad
I was wondering if anyone has a good suggestion for soft cases that fit a Modulus Q5? I have my hard cases still but since I bought some new gear I have little room for them in my car. A soft case would make extra room in my car for additional items that I might need to bring to a gig.

I'd say its risky putting a MODULUS in a soft case, i only put my legend in a soft case. Wots the length?

I really love my Incase Slim Bag. It is a little pricey, but I'm not sure there is a more protective gig bag/soft case for the money.

http://www.goincase.com/products/det...im-bag-cl56065

Kind of a funny coincidence, but it looks like on their website they show a Q5 in their bag, so at least you know it fits!

You are correct, that is a Modulus in their photo. I might look into the DUB model since I have 2 Q5's

The Dub looks really nice, but a number of people here have mentioned that it can get pretty heavy when loaded up with two basses inside. You might want to just check into that first. I've only used the Slim bag so the weight really isn't a problem, and I'll recommend it to anyone who wants a killer gig bag/soft case.

I just bought a Carvin gig bag and I've been really impressed with it's build and features (handles, pockets). If I have wanted to impress people I probably would have sprung for the Reunion Blues kind of designer bag.

I really feel that Carving bag is about best bang for the buck.

I have an old Q5 that I keep in a Coffin Case Deluxe Body Bag. It was affordable, and does its job rather well.

If you're not too keen on the goth/horror motif, I would imagine there are plenty of other great candidates for the job, as the Q5 is not a hard shape at all to fit a case to. Roksak??? Levy's? Those are great, too.

I've got a Body Glove for my Dean. It's sturdy, and offers some protection for the headstock.

http://www.bodyglove.com/products_ca...tegory_id=3650

You can find them at Sam Ash for about $110.

I've used a Warwick Rock bag for my Moduli. I have a single and a double bag. Both the VJ and Q6 fit in there with no problems.

After seeing the price for the DUB ($299.99), I will not be getting that one anytime soon. Even the single at ($199.99) is a bit steep but I realize that good protection for a softcase costs lots more especially if it is to protect a $3500 bass. Looking for good quality and protection for about $150. Is this possible?

Sure it is. I think the difference between something cheaper is in how long it will hold up. I've schlepped my Moduli and other basses around in those Rockbags for a couple of years. They've worked great. I think I bought the double on ebay for around $75 brand new. Since all it does is protect the bass a bit in my car, they work fine. I wouldn't want to go throwing it around in an equipment trailer though.

Man.....$2 bills sure does seem like a lotta dough for a gig bag.

GRANTED, it seems better built than most hard cases, but a similar SKB hard case can be had for less........and is it REALLY that much lighter ?

I'm assuming your talking about the Incase Slim bag? It's not really that much lighter, but it is a more transportable design with the shoulder strap and back pack straps. It also includes a nice large accessory pocket in the front. Think of it more of a "soft case" than a gig bag.

Sorry, yes, I was talking about the Incase.

They look like a GREAT bag for sure....and I much prefer a soft case/gig bag to a HSC....but it is a pricey sucker !

I think what I like most about it is the strapping options...but again, it IS A PRICEY SUCKER !

Doesn't Godin make a soft case? I wonder what they run?

+1 on incase. I used a dub bag to carry my Q6 and VJ. It was heavy, but I felt good about the protection. If you're planning on using it for 1 bass most of the time, I'd get the slim bag. they are pricey, but they seem to give better protection than most, and if you paid 3k for a bass, $200 for a protective bag is not a bad idea!

Yeah, they are expensive, but you get what you pay for. It is the finest quality "soft case" I've ever used. I've had mine for a little over a year now, and it still looks like it is almost brand new.

True true.....and I'll probably wind up getting one.

They look very well built, comfortable to carry & very well thought out bag.

How big is that pocket?

Is there a barrier to speak of between the top of your bass & the pocket contents or is it just fabric?

In other words: if something was to hit the front of your bag contaning a pedal or 2, is there anything there to protect the bass from getting doinked?

Nevermind....I looked again & the pocket is attached to the top of the foam barrier .
